Ant Financial, a Chinese subsidiary of Alibaba, has launched a payment system that uses facial recognition technology at KFC’s self-service store in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
Payment system using facial recognition technology called “Laugh to pay” came into operation from 9h30 on 01/09 at KPRO store, allowing customers to pay meal without cash, bank card goods or mobile devices.
The 3D camera linked to the corresponding Alipay account scans the face of the customer to verify identity data (identity card, ID card) in the system. And then the customer will enter a phone number to complete the transaction. According to Ant Financial, the security of this technology is absolute. Users with dark, light makeup or hairstyle changes, the scanner can still identify and execute the transaction.
Intelligent algorithms, artificial intelligence technology combined with a repository of information assure the system does not identify the wrong person, and the fake photo, video, and software.
